• Projecto Comunidade Apoia a Vida (Community Support for Life Project) – Sao Tome and Principe
  MdM-P (Medicos do Mundo – Portugal) has been working in Sao Tome and Principe since April 2003, developing a HIV/AIDS combat and prevention project. The first year of the project was partially funded by the IPAD - Instituto Português de Apoio ao Desenvolvimento (Portuguese Institution for the Development Support). From the beginning of its intervention in the HIV/AIDS area, within the specific fields of primary and secondary prevention, to the present days, MdM has developed its work in this area in order to support the Government of Sao Tome and Principe to stop the increase of the HIV/AIDS rate. Based on this clear aim, the association has implemented a HIV/AIDS prevention and combat programme, which, to the effects of the present report, is divided in three different interventions, in particular relating to funding, but all focused on the same objective: the fight against the transmission of HIV/AIDS. With the obtained funding, MdM developed its intervention in the primary prevention area, by concentrating its Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities in the territory of Sao Tome and Principe. For 2006, the strategy adopted by MdM was not only to disseminate the IEC activities on the prevention of the disease, but also to expand the GATV networks existing in the country, similarly to what occurred in other countries.
