Staff


Jenny McLoughlin has now returned from maternity leave and has resumed her duties looking after special projects. Miriam DeLacy is now on maternity leave after the recent birth of her second son Liam. During this period Thuan Thai is assisting the School part time, so if you need any SOMS website assistance please contact Thuan on 52532 or email t.thai@unsw.edu.au.


Security


The security system is just waiting for two external telephone points to be supplied and connected, It is hoped that the system will be switched on during the next recess so that any potential problems can be sorted out before the students return. You will be informed as soon as we have a definite date for this system to become active.

Paper of the Month
The Research Committee is pleased to announce that the Paper of the Month for April goes to:

Grants and Awards


National Heart Foundation
  • Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships
The National Heart Foundation offers post-doctoral fellowships tenable in Australia for a period of up to two years. They may be full or part-time.
  • Career Development Fellowship
The National Heart Foundation invites applications relevant to Biomedical, Clinical or Public Health research in cardiovascular disease and related disorders from established researchers for a Career Research Fellowship. The Foundation will provide support over a five-year period for a Career Research Fellowship. Consideration will be given to applicants of exceptional merit with a proven record of independent research.

Multiple Sclerosis Australia
  • Project Grants
A project grant is an award made in support of a scientific research project proposed by an appropriately qualified investigator consistent with the sponsor's aims. Funding support usually does not exceed two years.
  • Postdoctoral Fellowships
Fellowships, to be held in an Australian university or research institute with appropriate research interests and facilities, will normally be held for two years, or up to a maximum of three. The award will fund a salary and related on-costs for the fellow and may include a small sum for maintenance.

Alzheimer’s Australia Research Limited Dementia Research Grants
Three seeding grants valued up to $20,000 each will be allocated for new investigators to research in a dementia-relevant area. Grants are typically awarded in both biological/non-clinical research and clinical/psychosocial research areas.

The Prize Awards Ceremony will be held at 5.30pm on Monday 22 May in the Athol Lykke Theatre followed by refreshments. Please feel free to come along and congratulate the prize recipients.
