Coffs Harbour Head of Campus wins research grant for Rural and Remote Health
Dr Gillian Gould presented at the 10th National Rural Health conference in Cairns recently and was awarded a research grant to continue her work on research into smoking cessation in Aboriginal communities.

The programme called Give Up the Smokes has received the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation Infront - Outback Research Award. Gillian is a Senior lecturer and the Head of Campus at the Rural Clinical School's Coffs Harbour Campus.
Indigenous people on the North Coast have the highest prevalence of smoking of any group in NSW (59.5%), yet do not attend local smoking cessation courses. This grant will enable a research assistant to support the local Aboriginal Medical Services in recruiting people to "Give Up The Smokes" smoking cessation programme. The "Give Up The Smokes" is a culturally targeted programme for Indigenous smokers developed locally through collaboration between Galambila Aboriginal Medical Service, Mid North Coast Division of General Practice and the UNSW Rural Clinical School.
The Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and the Cunningham Centre sponsor the "Infront Outback" Research Grants Programme to promote and support health-related research relevant to practice and policy in Australian rural and remote health.
