How to apply for entry in 2012

There are a number of steps that need to be completed by the dates specified below to fulfil the requirements of the UNSW Medicine admission process. For further information on the admission process, please see the section "Selection Criteria".

Note: the closing dates for submitting the Medicine Application Form and the application form to UNSW Admissions is 30 November 2011. However, applicants are advised to submit the documents as soon as possible because (1) interviews are held throughout most of the year and (2) there is a quota of only 70 places for international students for 2012 and there is the possibility that it may fill prior to 30 November.

Prior to 2011, part of the application process was online. UNSW Medicine has now developed the process so that from this year all of it is online. It is now available for applicants to complete.

3 June 2011	Last day to lodge application for the Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT) with ACER for international students living in Australia or New Zealand in 2011.
27 July 2011	Sit UMAT for international students living in Australia or New Zealand in 2011.
30 September 2011	Last day to lodge application with Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for international students sitting Australian Year 12 examinations in Australia in 2011.
30 November 2011	Last day to lodge Medicine Application Form with the Faculty of Medicine (however, earlier submission is recommended - see note above).
30 November 2011	Last day to lodge application with UNSW Admissions for international students not sitting Australian Year 12 examinations in Australia in 2011 (however, earlier submission is recommended - see note above). For further information see the UNSW International website or apply on line.
27 February 2012	Commencement of Year One.

UNSW Medicine Application Form

Applicants are required to submit a UNSW Medicine Application Form which includes questions on why they want to study medicine at UNSW, details of their relevant personal qualities and skills, their non-academic interests and activities and a brief description of their life experience. Schools will be asked to comment on the school-related activities and achievements. Schools will also be asked to submit predicted results for students sitting their final high school exams in 2011.

Please note that the information in this form is not used to select applicants for interview (with the exception of the school’s prediction of exam results). The information is used to set the context of the applicant’s interview. For more information on the telephone interview, please see the section Selection Criteria.

The UNSW Medicine Application Form became available on the Faculty’s website on March 1 and must be submitted to the Faculty before an interview can take place.
