Telephones
In most instances you will be provided with access to a phone within your workplace. Ask your unit’s Manager for information regarding your phone and phone number. The UNSW IT Services manages the telephone services on all UNSW owned campuses. Should you have any questions regarding a feature of your phone, call the Communications Unit Reception on 9385 1111. For information on how to use Voicemail and reporting faults please see the Telephony Services website.
In the instance where changes to a phone of network line are required an online Communications Request for Works and Service (Comms RWS) must be raised. Contact your unit’s Manager for advice.
Making calls
When dialling within the University to other University extensions (i.e. numbers that start with 9385...), it is only necessary to dial the last 5 digits (e.g. to telephone 9385 1234 dial 51234). The Prince of Wales Hospital (POW) can be reached in a similar way. POW numbers are prefixed with 9382. Dial "2" then the last four digits (e.g. for 9382 1234 dial 21234). For all other calls, dial ‘0’ for an outside line and then the full phone number.
Phone Billing
The Communications Unit issues quarterly statements to each administration unit outlining the number of outgoing and incoming calls made on each phone extension within that unit. This includes total time and cost of calls and identifies the number of STD and ISD call made. Personal calls should be kept to a minimum and wherever possible made on a personal mobile phone. This is especially so for STD and ISD calls.
