With broad experiences and interests in quantitative research methods in many fields, he has worked as a biostatistician, psychometrician and health econometrician in different projects. His recent research interests involve health services research, safety and quality of care and social epidemiology.
Broad Research Areas
- Epidemiology and Biostatistics
- Quantitative methods in health services research
- Patient safety
- Public health and social epidemiology
- Casual inference methodology in observational data
- Methodology in evaluating complex system intervention
- Data linkage
Current Project Work
- MERIT study: an NHMRC funded 23-hospital cluster randomised controlled trial to test the effectiveness of medical emergency team /rapid response system;
- 45 up study: the largest cohort study in the southern atmosphere with more than 250,000 participants aged over 45 years;
- SEEF study: an NHMRC strategic award program that assesses the social economic factors related to health and ageing. It is a sub-study of the 45 up study;
- Longitudinal Study of Australian Children: An Australian government funded (over $20m) cohort study on the development of the health, social well-being and literacy and numeracy (aged 0-12 years); one of the best cohort studies in such population in the world;
- New stroke clinical model: an NHMRC funded clinical trial on new health services model in managing stroke patients;
- Integration of medical emergency team and palliative care team: an NHMRC funded study in exploring the integration of medical emergency team and palliative care team;
- Assessing the capacity of communicable diseases monitoring system in middle western China: an AusAid funded project to develop the capacity of monitoring communicable disease in middle-western China covering three provinces;
- Various projects using administrative database to assess the quality of care.
