Cancer may be prevented by evaluating evidence that particular environmental exposures to recognised carcinogens is contributing to the burden of disease. Environmental carcinogens may affect those in particular occupations or members of the wider community who are live in relevant locations or are implicated by other variables. Occurrence of potentially carcinogenic exposures, ranging from environmental tobacco smoke to the impact of contaminated industrials sites is investigated by staff of the South Eastern Sydney Public Health Unit.
