Online training: Orientation to Research

The Researcher Development Unit offers a wide range of programs for research staff at UNSW. An integral program is the twice yearly - “Orientation to Research” - that provides an excellent overview of many things new academic or research staff need to know about.

The session, filmed in February 2011, is available on UNSWTV making it easily accessible for those who cannot make the two sessions held each year. There are six short videos from this session and are restricted to use by UNSW staff and is viewed via link: https://tv.unsw.edu.au/video/1-opening-of-orientation-to-research-session-march-2011 - login with Staff ID and UniPass

This online training video and supporting reading material is suitable for the following staff in your area:
  • New research staff needing to become acquainted with the UNSW research environment
  • Existing staff who would like a more cohesive picture of research at UNSW
  • Staff who have not attended the Orientation to Research workshops held in February and August 201
Researcher Development’s current program of training sessions can be viewed here and we encourage your research staff to regularly view this page to keep in touch with the range of support and training we offer staff.

Whole Person Care National Symposium 2012 - Making a difference in the space of uncertainty

This is the 2nd National Whole Person Care Symposium – we are 'back by popular demand' following the overwhelming success of our Inaugural event in October, 2009.

The focus of the Symposium will be the issue of uncertainty in Medicine, and how clinicians can become more competent at reducing uncertainty, and being more comfortable in addressing it. Uncertainty is inherent in health care, and for many clinicians, uncertainty is a necessary evil. However, we propose that uncertainty should be embraced because of the opportunity it provides clinicians and patients to engage on more profound levels, and to reflect on alternative possibilities. We believe that addressing uncertainty is a necessary skill for effective care of patients, and for self-care, as clinicians. In a world of increasing medical knowledge, capabilities and expectations, the issue of uncertainty is rarely discussed.

When: Wednesday 21 – Thursday 22 March 2012
Where: Doltone House, Sydney, Australia
Registration Opens: 14 November 2011
