Success of hosted meeting - Association of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI)
On February 17th and 18th UNSW Medicine hosted the second Asia Pacific Meeting of the Association of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI), at the Swiss Grand Hotel, Bondi Beach.
Over the past several years AAHCI has brought together leaders from universities and medical centres around the world to share knowledge and experience about the state of global academic medicine.
The theme of the meeting “Developing Translational Medicine”, attracted a large number of participants both nationally and internationally as well as media interest. Leading representatives from developed and developing nations in the Asia /Pacific, North America and Europe addressed the meeting. Keynote speakers were Professor Warwick Anderson, CEO, of NHMRC and Ms Jane Halton, Secretary, Department of Health and Ageing.
While Academic Health Centers are at various stages of development throughout the world, it was clear that all leaders are keen to ensure alignment between education, research, and patient care. Dr Steven Wartman, CEO of the Association and Professor Peter Smith were equally delighted with the level of engagement of all participants and anticipated positive, future directions.

Postdoctoral Academy Program
A collaboration between the faculties of Medicine, Science and Engineering have resulted in the launch of the Postdoctoral Academy Program commencing on Thursday 3rd March at 4:00pm, Lowy Cancer Research Centre Level 4. The Program is a professional development and education series of 2 x 13 weekly discussion style workshops delivered by UNSW senior staff who are leaders in their field followed by a networking opportunity to meet your fellow researchers with light refreshments provided.

We encourage everyone to attend as many seminars as possible. It is a great opportunity for researchers to meet their contemporaries in these fields across the University, to get to know each other, build professional networks and find new prospects for collaboration.
To register, simply log into MyUNSW, select ‘My Staff Profile’ tab and choose ‘Training Registration’ in the left hand menu. Select the course type ‘Postdoctoral Academy’ and choose the courses you wish to attend. You will be sent an email confirming your registration.
