Statistical Methods for Health Care Research - 4 Day Course - 13th, 14th, 15th & 16th September 2010
Course Description
This class is a 4-day course running on Monday 13th, Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th September 2010 in Sydney CBD.
This training will take you through the practical aspects of statistical analysis using SPSS Statistics (also known as PASW Statistics). You will learn the fundamentals of the software, descriptive and exploratory data analysis, the concepts behind inferential statistics and what techniques are appropriate for various situations. You will use statistical methods to investigate differences between groups, relationships between variables, build predictive models and learn the assumptions of each statistical method. Both parametric and non-parametric tests are covered in the course.
Prerequisites
Basic statistical knowledge equivalent to one university level course in Statistics
Course Content
Introduction to SPSS Statistics: the fundamentals
Exploratory data analysis: appropriate descriptive statistics for different types of data
Introduction to inferential statistics and hypothesis testing
Choice of appropriate statistical methods
Comparing groups: Crosstabulations with chi-square test
Differences between group means
- Independent samples t-test, paired t-test
- One-way ANOVA + post-hoc tests
Scatterplots and Correlation
Simple and Multiple Linear Regression

$3,080 including GST for the full 4 Day Course

Advanced Statisical Methods for Health Care Research - 2 Day Course - 15th-16th November 2010
Course Description
This class is a 2-day course running on Monday 15th, and Tuesday 16th November 2010.
The first part of the course focuses on the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) techniques which allow you to test whether the means of several populations are the same. The second part of the course will build upon your knowledge of linear regression and will introduce you to logistic regression and survival analysis. You will develop an understanding of when to apply the techniques, how to apply them and how to interpret the results.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the basics of SPSS and statistics equivalent to SPSS Training: Statistical Methods for Health Care Research
Course Content
- One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
- Multi-way univariate ANOVA
- Multi-way multivariate ANOVA (MANOVA)
- Nonparametric (distribution free) alternatives
- Post hoc testing and planned comparisons
- Graphing the results
- Running Logistic Regression in SPSS
- ROC Curves
- Interpreting Logistic Regression output
- Appendix: Repeated measures ANOVA
