Applications for entry in 2009

Late registrations and applications will be accepted until 31 October, 2008. Late applicants from NSW and ACT will be considered for the early January round of interviews. Please note that no places are offered until after this round of interviews, so there is no disadvantage in being interviewed in January. Frequently asked questions after Main Round offers from UAC (January 17):
1. Will there be offers to UNSW Medicine in the Late Round?
We will be making a number of offers in the Late Round. However, we anticipate that most or all of them will be made to interstate applicants who are being interviewed on Thursday January 24. (We are interviewing 45 applicants on that day.) Obviously, we do not know how many will be made offers. If there are still places available after those interviews, we will work down the ranked list from the Main Round of offers, and make whatever additional offers we need to make to fill the quota of places that the Australian Government has allocated to UNSW Medicine.
2. I received the code "I" for UNSW Medicine in the Main Round offers - what does that mean?
It is the second part of the explanation for this code which refers to your situation, namely, that at this stage, you have not met the cutoff for offers. As you are aware, selection is based on the sum of your academic, UMAT and interview results, so the cutoff does not refer to any one component, but to the sum of the three. Please be assured that if you had an interview at UNSW, your application will still be considered when places are being offered in the Late Round.
3. I was offered a bonded place in the Main Round. Is there any chance of it being upgraded to an unbonded place in the Late Round?
As explained in point 1, there will be a number of offers in the Late Round, but we anticipate that most or all of the offers will be to interstate applicants who will be interviewed on January 24. If there are any unbonded places left, we will work down the ranked list and email applicants to offer the change to an unbonded place.
4. I was offered a full-fee place in the Main Round. Is there any chance of it being upgraded to a bonded or an unbonded place in the Late Round?
As explained in point 1, there will be a number of offers in the Late Round, but we anticipate that most or all of the offers will be to interstate applicants who will be interviewed on January 24. If there are any bonded or unbonded places left, we will work down the ranked list. Applicants who have been offered a full-fee place will have any additional offer communicated to them via UAC in the Late Round of offers.
20 September, 2007:
UAI and UMAT scores required for interview
Listed below are the minimum predicted UAI and actual UMAT scores that applicants needed to achieve in order to be offered an interview in the main round of interviews (September) over the past two years. This information is designed to give applicants a guide to the scores that may be required in 2007. However, as interview offers are made in accordance with a ranked list until all available times are filled, there is no guarantee that the minimum predicted UAI and actual UMAT will remain the same each year.
- If the sum of the 3 UMAT scores (the raw mark not the scaled mark or the percentile rank) was 151 the predicted UAI to obtain an interview was 100.
- If the combined UMAT (as defined above) was 163 the predicted UAI to obtain an interview was 99.50.
This Table gives other cut off scores:
Actual UMAT | Predicted UAI required for offer of main round interview |
151 | 100.0 |
163 | 99.5 |
172 | 99.0 |
187 | 98.0 |
195 | 97.0 |
202 | 96.0 |
213 | 95.0 |

UMAT not required by students in Singapore
It has been decided that international students who are living in Singapore are no longer required to sit UMAT. Results of Singaporean students were clustered in a small range, and with few exceptions, were acceptable. They therefore added little useful information in assessing applicants.
