Robyn Ward

Professor Ward became the Head of School in 2009. She is a medical oncologist who leads a highly successful biomedical and clinical research group based in the Lowy Cancer Research Centre and the Prince of Wales Hospital. She has made important contributions to the understanding of the epigenetic and genetic events which underpin the development of colorectal cancer. Professor Ward is strongly committed to creating environments where clinicians and researchers will work together to accelerate the pathway from research discovery to measurable improvements in cancer care.
In 2004, her achievements in research were recognised by the award of the Commonwealth Health Minister's Award for Excellence in Health and Medical Research and she received the NSW Premier's Award for Outstanding Cancer Research in 2007. Her work has been continuously funded by peer reviewed grants and she has authored over 140 papers in international peer reviewed research journals.
Professor Ward chairs a number of state committees, serves on editorial boards and is also the Director of Area Cancer Services for the South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Area Health Service. Since 2001, she has served as a member of the Commonwealth's Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee and the Commonwealth's Repatriation Medical Authority. In 2009 she was appointed the Chair of Commonwealth Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC).
