Elective Term - UNSW Students Only

The information below is for UNSW Medicine enrolled students only.
The Elective Term is a compulsory component of the UNSW undergraduate medicine program. This page and the following pages will provide the neccessary information for organising the term. Check the Important Dates (below) to ensure your application and reports arrive here on time for processing.

Year 6 (2008) students - not using the new application process - will find
forms in the right column on the
Elective Term Checklist page.
Students are required to complete the Elective Term Application form located on eMed then -
- Return your form (signed by prospective supervisor, or letter of agreement) to the Electives Coordinator in the Office of the Dean, UNSW Medicine.
- Your application is forwarded by the Electives Coordinator to the Clinical Associate Dean of your UNSW Hospital attachment.
- If your Clinical Associate Dean approves your application it will be forwarded to the Senior Associate Dean for final approval.
- If approved by the Senior Associate Dean you will receive a confirmation email.
- When approved you can confirm your acceptance of the offer with your prospective supervisor.
Each student must carefully consider each of the issues outlined and then satisfy herself / himself that she / he is applying for an elective that fits the criteria set down by the University before making a formal application via the Elective Term Application form. In addition, each student is required to write a one page risk assessment to justify their rationale for undertaking the elective and the possible restrictions and potential risks involved. This should be submitted to the Electives Coordinator with your application. |
