Public Health

Public Health
The Master of Public Health is widely recognised as essential for a career in population health. It provides preparation for education, research and service in all aspects of public health. There is an option to enrol in a general Master of Public Health program or in one of five areas of specialisations: (1) Infectious Diseases Epidemiology and Control; (2) International Health; (3) Health Promotion; (4) Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing; or (5) Primary Health Care. Dual degrees are available with either Health Management or International Public Health.

International Public Health
The Master of International Public Health equips students with the knowledge and competencies to contribute to disease control and health promotion across a range of populations and countries. These extend from least developed and post-conflict countries through middle income countries. Dual degrees are available with either Health Management or Public Health.

Health Management

Health Management
Our widely recognised Master of Health Management is the oldest and most established program in Australia. It has been designed to provide students with the essential knowledge, skills and attributes required for senior managerial roles in health services both in Australia and internationally. Dual degrees are available with either Public Health or International Public Health.

General Education for Undergraduates
The General Education courses at SPHCM intend to broaden and deepen students’ understanding of how the mass media influences health, concepts of power and health in society, and the development and maintenance of physical health, disease prevention and general wellbeing.

Medicine

Undergraduate Medical Program
The School plays a major role in the Faculty of Medicine's undergraduate medical program. Our emphasis is on the community-based health model, as opposed to hospital-based teaching and is reflected in courses which teach our students how to communicate with patients, multicultural health issues, indigenous health, drugs and alcohol, health systems, as well as primary care, general practice, rural health, rehabilitation medicine, aged care and geriatrics, and clinical and behavioural studies.
