Independent Studies
The purpose of pursuing an Independent Study is to learn about a particular area or course matter which is of special interest to you but is not offered in the formal program.
Points to note:
1. The course load should be commensurate with that of a 6 unit of credit elective course.
2. You may achieve a total of 12 units of credit through independent studies.
3. A supervisor with whom you must regularly correspond for a certain period of time on a weekly/fortnightly basis must be appointed. It is up to you to initiate action in this regard, by negotiating with one of the academic staff of the School.
4. You will need to complete an "Application to undertake an Independent Study" form [PDF] and have it approved by your supervisor before you can be enrolled in the independent study. The proposal should include details of topic, methods, assessment, duration (S1, S2 or Summer).
5. You should negotiate with your supervisor and agree in advance on the scope of the work, requirements for submission and how you will be assessed.
7. How to enrol in an independent study (see enrolment procedures point 15).
