Part Time Teaching policy
| Name: Sessional (part-time) Teaching Policy | Contact : Director of Teaching |
| Date: February 2006 | Approval: SoMS Executive |
| Review Date: August 2006 | |
The planning and reimbursement for sessional (part-time) teaching in the School of Medical Sciences (SOMS) is coordinated through the Office of the Director of Teaching (A/Prof. Brian Freeman and Tim Greenwood).
- A designated person from each department (either the Head of Department or representative) is responsible for coordinating part-time teaching within each discipline or unit.
- Approval for any variation in teaching arrangements (e.g., hours, frequency, etc.) is to be made through the Office of the Director of Teaching.
- Full-time UNSW employees (e.g., research officers, etc.) are welcome to do sessional teaching with the approval of their supervisor/Head of School; however there can be no remuneration for any such teaching.
- Each sessional teacher must complete an offer of employment form, which is to be signed by the Head of Department or teaching coordinator and the Head of School. A SOMS teaching information kit containing this policy document will be given to each sessional teacher.
- The choice of part-time teachers is based on recommendations made to the Head of Department or departmental coordinator of part-time teaching.
- All claims for payment for sessional (part-time) teaching are to be submitted to Tim Greenwood, both electronically and as hardcopy signed by the Course Authority (form attached). Repeat classes must be individually identified. Payment will not be processed until all the required fields are filled in and the signed hardcopy is received.
- Payment will be made at the following rates (http://www.hr.unsw.edu.au/casacsal.htm)
- For a one-hour lecture $124.35 (rate code 151)
- For a one-hour tutorial $90.28 (code 153). Sessional teachers are expected to do up to 20 minutes of marking for each hour paid at these rates in a particular course.

- For demonstrating in all other laboratory classes $30.09 per hour (rate 157)
