SCL Student

Jin Han

Jin is a PhD student who joined the group in 2006 after finishing her M. Phil. at the University of Newcastle, Australia. Born in China and awarded M. Sci., she continued her scholarly endeavour in Australia.

Currently, Jin is investigating reprogramming of somatic cells into stem cell state by applying different methods, which includes cell fusion, epigenetic modifications and cell culture. The long-term goal of this research project of reprogramming is to create patient-specific donor cells for transplantation therapy, avoiding immune-rejection, a major complication in current transplantation medicine. We are also interested in directed differentiating of the reprogrammed cells into neurons and hope that will help in understanding and curing neural degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.

The motto she upholds in study and work has been "Nothing in the world is difficult for one who sets his/her mind to." In spare time she enjoys listening to music, reading and traveling. Especially she likes to discuss what she reads with her friends.
