Depression

Depression in the elderly has been under-diagnosed, under-treated and mistakenly perceived as having a pessimistic outlook. We are interested in determining the cause of depression occurring for the first time in late life, the clinical characteristics of depression in older people as compared to those in younger people; its treatment and its prognosis, both in the short, long and very long term.

We are also researching depression in patients who have suffered a stroke and its relationship to apathy, recovery and risk factors for its development. Please see the link for Cerebrovascular Disease for more information about this area of research.
