Suicide in the Elderly

Suicide rates in the world are highest in older men.

Associate Professor Brian Draper has been studying the nature of and risk factors for suicidal ideation in the elderly. We have also just commenced a psychological autopsy study examining the last contact that patients' had with a GP prior to committing suicide. We are hoping that this research will reveal important key signs and markers that will help identify at-risk individuals in the future.
