Our Mission


"Facing the challenges of Aged Care Mental Health in the South Eastern Sydney Area Health Service."

The Aged Care Mental Health Service is a multidisciplinary team specialising in the assessment, management and care of people aged 65 years or more, who have a psychological disorder or mental illness.

  • Clinical Psychologist
  • Registered and Enrolled Nurses
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Diversional Therapist
  • Social Worker
  • Welfare Officer

Our Main Focus


Is to help people in our local catchment area which includes the Botany, Waverley and Woollahra Municipalities.

We Are Also


A tertiary referral service for other Health Areas.

What do We Provide?


Specialised assessment, treatment and management (including rehabilitation) of elderly people who are in inpatient, outpatient and community settings. In addition, we aim to assist the elderly to live in their own home as long as this is compatible with their needs.

Specifically


We have a 6 bed Inpatient Unit at Prince of Wales Hospital in the Euroa Centre. We provide domicillary assessment and management of people who are living at home, in a hostel or nursing home.

As a Mental Health Service


We provide liaison, information and education to Health Care Workers, Residential Care Facilities and Non-Government Organisations involved in the care of elderly persons.

Information and Education about dementia and mental health problems occurring in the elderly
Referral to community services, hostels and nursing homes
Information and liaison with community and residential services

Who can Refer?


Any health worker, family member or the elderly person him/herself can initiate the referral. All referrals should be made through or with the approval of the local Doctor or Community Health Workers.

How to Refer


Phone 9382 3759 to make a referral, between 9am and 4.45pm Monday to Friday. For after hours care, the Psychogeriatric Registrar can be contacted through Prince of Wales Hospital on 9382 2222.
