SESAHS Computer Connection

UNSW Staff and Students must not connect their university or personal IT equipment to the South Eastern Sydney Area Health Service (SEH) network unless they have approval. Approval is based on 2 requirements:

  • All IT equipment must comply with the SEH standards or be exempted from them. This includes being named according to the SEH convention.
  • All IT equipment must have adequate antivirus protection.

IT equipment includes PCs, laptops and printers.

Applying for Approval

If you only wish to physically connect to the network, and have no SEH domain account then
  1. Log a call to the SEH IT Support Centre on 9382 1999. Give them your details, including University Department and reason why you wish to connect to the SEH network. You will be given a call reference number.
  2. This call will be assigned to SEH IT Support staff based at St George. They will respond to you with advice on the current SEH standard and what, if any, further work is required in relation to your specific equipment (e.g. acceptable antivirus software, latest operating system patches).
  3. In some cases, the SEH IT Support staff can authorize immediate connection. If so, they will record in the HEAT call their authorization to connect the correctly named PC and assist you with the physical connection if required.
  4. In other cases, further technical work will be required. If so, you will need to log a call with UNSW Computing Support on 9350 1333 and request that this work be completed. SEH IT Support may not have administrative privileges to do this work and cannot take responsibility for impact of upgrades on nonSEH equipment.
  5. When the work is completed, you should call the SEH IT Support Centre. Quote your HEAT reference number, ask them to record that the work is completed and to forward the request for exemption to the SEH IT Standards Committee.
  6. SEH IT Standards Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except Dec). You will be notified in writing of approval to connect to the network by the secretary of the SEH IT Standards Committee.

If you have a SEH domain account, there are additional requirements for network connection in relation to software licensing (SMS, Windows CAL). Please log a call to the SEH IT Help Desk as in step 1 above and SEH IT Support staff will advise you in detail of these requirements, costs and processes.

Antivirus Protection

SEH Domain Account Holders Equipment used by SEH domain account holders has Trendmicro Anti Virus software installed and receives AV updates automatically. It also receives operating system patches automatically via SMS when connected to the network.

Non SEH Domain Account Holders Either University or SEH IT Support staff may also install Trendmicro on University or personal equipment. Automatic AV updates will be received but it is important to note that automatic operating system updates will not be received. Therefore this does not constitute full or ongoing virus protection.

University users and IT support staff remain responsible for patching operating systems and ensuring regular virus pattern updates are installed.
