About Us
Background
The Centre for Infection and Inflammation Research (CIIR) is a biomedical research centre based at UNSW and affiliated teaching hospitals within the South-Eastern Sydney & Illawarra Area Health Service.
Goals
The broad aim of CIIR is to better understand the pathophysiology of inflammation in human disease, in order to provide improved strategies for prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and inflammatory disorders.
The specific goals of the Centre are to promote research excellence by:
| (i) | fostering cross-campus collaborations for specific research projects, notably those with translational and clinical outcomes; |
| (ii) | facilitating cross-campus applications for peer-reviewed, commercial and philanthropic funding; |
| (iii) | supporting cross-campus and interdisciplinary interactions through formal research meetings; |
| (iv) | fostering postgraduate research training in studies of infection and inflammation. |
Management
The CIIR is located within the Faculty of Medicine and functions in close collaboration with the participating Schools and the South-Eastern Sydney & Illawarra Area Health Service.
The CIIR management is led by the Director and Management Committee who are supported by an Administration Officer.
The CIIR Board oversees the management by: review of outcomes against the key performance indicators; providing advice on strategic directions; and fostering external links with funding opportunities.
